The Best of My 2009
This year hasn’t been too shabby for me.
I edited and published a book. I got my masters degree from Missouri. I placed in CPOY.
I got drunk at Mardi Gras.
Here’s a look back, from Spain to California and all the places in between. If I learned anything this year, it’s never stop looking and don’t give up, because you never know when a basketball coach will start dancing on a table in the locker room.
Goodbye, 2009, and bring it on, 2010.
Wyoming Landscapes
The West really is one of the most beautiful places around. Wide-open, good light, and heck, even the people are pretty nice. Some other highlights from my trip to Casper, Wyo.:
• I bought a pair of cowboy boots from a local store that’s been around since 1919. The salesman helped me get the right fit and gave me a handwritten receipt.
• Bison chop steak. ‘Nuff said.
• I woke up every morning to a cup of one of my favorite coffees, Highlander Grogg, and NPR.
• We went to the Rimrock bar where all beer was in bottles, there was one pool table, a jukebox, a fireplace and some interesting conversation with the regulars.
• I got to try out my 4×4 on snow for the first time. It was better than my old Mustang.
Roadside fog
It must be winter in Iowa. On my way to Wyoming for a few days to breathe the fresh mountain air.

Leaving on a Jet Plane
This is what happens when I have a D3 and two hours to kill on a flight from St. Louis to San Antonio:

Please leave your tray table in the upright, locked position during take-off…

All flights are non-smoking, so don’t do it, even though air travel these days will turn anyone into a chain smoker…

We’ll offer you one beverage of mostly ice free of charge. You’ll finish it in approximately 5 seconds. Additional soda can be purchased for $5…

This flight is booked full, so don’t try to move; it’ll just piss off your neighbor…

The view, however, is free. Take as much as you want.
