Thermopolis
Jackie and I stayed the night in Thermopolis last week, home of the world’s largest mineral hot springs. Basically, the whole place smells like sulfur. Once you get used to the smell, though, the town is actually quite nice. And hey, having a hotel room comped by the paper isn’t bad either.
Motel Yes/No
Stopped briefly while driving through Jeffrey City last night on my way west. What this photo doesn’t show is the horde of moquitos eating my flesh as I made it.
Roadtrip
On my way back from Saratoga this morning, I drove down an old state highway just for a change of pace. I knew it was going to be good when there was a sign that said “Open Range, Loose Stock” but I didn’t think the scenery would be this cool.
Sorry Missouri, but Wyoming sure beats you when it comes to the view.
Two Views from the Wing
I usually never keep my big DSLR with me when I travel on airplanes. It’s packed away under the seat and, in the past, if I ever saw something cool, I’d just snap it with my camera phone. On the way to Wyoming last night, I decided to bring just the camera – no bags, no extra lenses – so I had to hold it with me.
As we waited to leave Kansas City, a storm started to roll in from the west.
Once we got above the weather, the sky turned this great shade of blue and everything else took on that hue. I was photographing the wing when I noticed another plane flying alongside.
Jackson
Went to Jackson, Wyoming for a couple of days with Jackie on a mini-vacation. I’ve only driven through once before, so it was cool to actually stop and see some of the fantastic scenery around town and in Grand Teton National Park nearby. As a bonus, we were in town when the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree came through after being harvested earlier that day in the national forest.
Wrong Turn
Sometimes misreading the map can take you down a quiet road, just as the early morning fog thinks about lifting.
